John Fontanella
I was extremely saddened today to hear of the passing of my dear friend and colleague, John Fontanella, a true thought leader in supply chain management. A tribute to John is published on the AMR Research web site.
For those of you who did not know John, he was the Vice President of Supply Chain Research at AMR Research. He had a wealth of practical experience to offer in operations, worldwide logistics, transportation, and advanced supply chain technology.
Those of us who knew John recall his ready smile, quick wit, and passion for friends and family.
John and I were contemporaries who shared the same urban roots. We cemented that bond of friendship and collegiality when we were both part of the supply chain management team at Digital Equipment Corporation. Over his career, John moved on to be director of worldwide logistics for Microsoft and, then, John became an industry analyst with AMR. It was at AMR that John and I again shared a professional relationship. Working with John at AMR was a true joy. He was a successful and practical industry analyst who could readily translate the big-picture for clients. John’s career expanded to include research leadership roles at Yankee Group and Aberdeen Group before he returned to AMR.
Our supply chain management community is forever changed without John.
John, my friend, I will miss you.
