The Loss of an Educator and Thought Leader- Dr. John Mentzer
I was rather saddened to note the passing of Dr. John T. (Tom) Mentzer, a very prominent supply chain educator, author and thought leader. A tribute to Dr. Metzer as well as a web link to his recent January writing of Learning to Celebrate Life can be found on the CSCMP web ste- linked here.
DC Velocity also provided an overview of Dr. Mentzer’s background and contributions to the world of global supply chain.
Throughout the years I’ve come to know Tom not only by reading and following of his research, but also visiting and having the opportunity to speak at one his forums at the University of Tennessee. He always extended a helping hand for any inquiry, and was a great inspiration and mentor for both his students and others in the supply chain community.
As noted, Tom was a past president of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), and always made the time to say hello to a familiar face. His contributions to the global supply chain profession, particularly in the areas of sales forecasting, sales and operations planning and relationships with marketing were noteworthy.
My condolences go out to Tom’s family and colleagues. His contributions and friendship will be missed.
